Level 4 Machine Shearing

The senior course is for working shearers who's tally average is 250 sheep per day, who have their National Certificate in Machine Shearing level three and who are looking to expand their range to cover variable circumstances.

After four days in a working wool shed with our friendly and experienced tutors you will be shearing above-average tallies and will be able to play the ganger role in a shearing team. You will have confidence in your ability to shear a wide range of breeds and fill the comb.

You will shear precisely to the pattern with a minimum of stress to yourself and the sheep. You will be able to repair and replace most parts of the handpiece and plant and will be able to prepare specialised gear when necessary.

You will be able to adjust your style to maintain output, fluency and quality under complex and varying conditions, while also being able to diagnose and correct any machinery faults and failures.

You will also be able to act as the contractor's agent on the farm and liase with the farmer on his/her requirements, resolve any problems and supervise the shearing team to ensure optimum output, quality and good work habits. 

At the end of the course, and after finishing some on-the-job practical tasks you will have all you need to pass the National Certificate in Shearing level four.
