What's happening in your area

It all starts on the farm

A small problem on the farm can easily flow through the supply chain to become a costly problem in manufacturing.

Just as importantly consumers want more. They demand their products are of the highest standards and want them to come from production systems that meet strict ethical standards, particularly as it relates to the environment and animal welfare.

By making a choice to join the Fernmark Quality Programme (FQP) these issues, and many more will be a thing of the past.

Based on internationally recognised ISO certification, the Fernmark Quality Programme (FQP) sets and monitors quality standards for presentation of sheep for shearing, wool harvesting facility, staff qualifications for wool preparation and packaging. Other key components are prevention of animal contamination, animal welfare and management of dip residues.

Why bother you may ask?
Fernmark accredited growers' products are sort after. By being accredited and displaying the Fernmark, wool buyers recognise you are committed to producing the best quality wool to meet the dynamic changing requirements of the world wool textile industry.

Those who purchase your wool also know:
- It has better fibre quality because of your wool harvesting systems,
- There is reduced risk of contamination and a reduction in dip residues,
- Documentation and communication procedures are easy to follow,
- Traceability of product is increased,
- There is a clear identification of on-conforming product, and
- They have assurance that wool has been produced in a farming system which recognises good animal welfare practices and is environmentally friendly.
