Fernmark Quality Programme up and running

Wednesday, 24 November 2004
The first of many reassessments for registered Fernmark accredited farmers started this week and early indications are that farmers are very keen to be part of an internationally recognised quality programme.

In late September, as a result of farmer demand, Tectra decided to relaunch the Fernmark Quality Programme.

David Long, Manager Quality, says that reintroducing the programme needed to be well managed so it was decided to do it in different stages - the first being to complete reassessments of current Fernmark accredited farmers.

"The Fernmark Quality programme is based on the internationally recognised ISO 9001 certification. There are quality standards which must be met before a farmer can use the Fernmark Quality Programme brand. As such it was essential that we focussed on ensuring our registered farmers still met the standards required under accreditation."

Earlier this week David and his team started the first of many reassessments and have been pleased with the results.

"The inspection process is very thorough," says David. " We need to look at the wool harvesting facilities and associated documentation."

"We have completed four reassessments and are impressed at how these farmers have continued to demonstrate high standards in all aspects of wool harvesting demanded by the criteria to qualify as accredited wool growers."

David says that later this season other farmers will be invited to get on board with the Fernmark Quality Programme.
