Certificate in Wool Technology

The Certificate in Wool Technology is a two-year part time programme of five papers, taught mainly extramurally and including one short, practical block course.

This course is a recognised qualification for wool industry professionals interested in the production, harvesting and preparation of wool.
It is suitable for anyone wanting to further their understanding of wool and the wool industry in this country.

Graduates have an in-depth understanding of the structure of the New Zealand wool industry and its history; animal health and welfare; the biology of wool growth and removal; the main characteristics of different wool types and the significance of these for its end-use; how to assess wool characteristics; and spoken and non-verbal communication skills.

We also offer a strand in wool classing for experienced wool handlers looking to get into the classing profession. We have aligned this qualification with its Australian equivalent which allows graduates to enter a short two-week endorsement programme in Australia to achieve their Australian classing ticket.

Each paper involves approximately 8 hours of study per week, including readings and assignments.
Enrolment applications are open now so don't delay.

Tuition fees for the two year programme are $1400.00 including GST, and student loans may be available.
