Economic Service
Established in 1950, the service is owned equally by the New Zealand
Meat Board (Meat New Zealand) and the New Zealand Wool Board.
From October 2002 The Economic Service
formally became a group within Meat and Wool Innovation Limited.
The Service's operating policy is to:
- provide independent and authoritative information to Meat New Zealand,
the New Zealand Wool Board, the farm sector and primary industry
- provide forecasts and comment on the sector.
We have contracts for core service provision with Meat New Zealand and
the New Zealand Wool Board. In addition we undertake work on charge basis.
Our information is independent, authoritative and current.
We publish a wide variety of trend information and forecasts, specific to
sheep and beef farm sector. One of our key publications is our Annual Review
of the New Zealand Sheep and Beef Industry. This annual publication includes
detailed information on international livestock and production, seasonal
weather conditions, NZ livestock numbers, meat and wool production, fertiliser,
store stock prices, land values and price levels in New Zealand and overseas.
Our New Season Outlook and Mid Season Update publications are standard reference
material.
