Survey
The Meat and Wool Economic Service of New Zealand independent comment draws heavily on our Sheep and Beef Farm Survey and its direct linkage to farms. The current Sheep and Beef Farm Survey is a random sample of 550 farms. Each farm is visited annually to obtain livestock numbers, production, prices received and financial accounts that include the farm capital structure for the year just ended. These data are analysed to a standard format. Farms are also contacted at key times for updates. Along with other sector data, the Survey provides us with a large database of factual information to daw on for forecast work and to comment on issues of the day. The published Survey data are presented as per farm averages. This information is a guide to trends on sheep and beef farms, not standards to which each and every farm is expected to conform. Cross sectional analysis of the Survey is published to show the characteristics top performing farms and contrast these with "average" and poorer performance farms. Click here for Quickstats |
