Tectra is New Zealand's largest provider of wool industry training. Our programmes help people develop the skills they need to succeed in a career in the wool industry. They are recognised and valued around the world. Wool HarvestingTectra's shearing, wool handling and pressing training programmes will provide you with a pathway to a national qualification. The mixture of off-job training and hands on experience will help you to quickly convert what you learn into skills that employers are looking for - our courses help people get jobs. We work closely with the industry to ensure our training is always current and relevant to the workplace. We also provide starter courses for school and university students looking to gain work experience and earn some money in their holidays. All our training instructors started as shearers, wool handlers or pressers and our courses are based on industry knowledge, experience and sound educational principles. Certificate in Wool TechnologyThe Certificate in Wool Technology is a two-year part time programme of five papers, taught extramurally and including one short, practical block course. It is suitable for farmers, brokers, processors and people aspiring to become wool classers - in fact anyone wanting to further their understanding of wool and the wool industry in this country. Modern ApprenticeshipsTectra is also proud to facilitate the Modern Apprenticeship programme for the wool industry. Wool harvesting modern apprentices embark on a 3 year programme which provides first class wool harvesting training, lots of support and mentoring from Tectra and employment with some of the country's best shearing contractors. This is a great place to start your career in the wool industry. Drugs and Alcohol The use of any non-prescribed drugs or alcohol while attending any of our training courses is strictly forbidden. If you are taking any medication prescribed by a doctor please let us know so that we can ensure you are able to take part in the training without any risk to yourself or other course participants.
